Day 2 with Sammi Home

It was so great to have Sammi back in bed last night! She’s my cuddle-bug, but not yet. I’m afraid I’ll hurt her at night.

She was great when she got up. Ate well. Went out to potty. We snuggled with a movie, she ate a little then we took a nap. She was very “odd” when she woke up. Yelped a bit and nipped at me.
Gave her more pain meds and she is resting again.

A little more anxious than yesterday but still happy to have her home!

More later.

  1. All the hospital pain meds are probably out of Sammi’s system now, so she may be hurting a bit more now. Checkmout phantom pain in tne forums. Itsw when the nerve endings are firing off to a leg that’s no longer there. Eventually it stops. It usually shows up suddenly and lasts for just a few seconds. The dog will help a d often times try to “move away” from the pain. Gentle massaging around the incision site helps.

I’ve forgtten the pain meds Sammie’s on, but Gabapentin is usually given to help prevent this. Just keep the pain meds consistent .and try and stay ahead of the pain.

It’s great that she’s eating and taking naps. Good signs!

You still jave a bit of some ups and downs ahead of you, but eventually it becomes all ups!

    Lots of hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

PS…Can’t wait to see pics of this cutie pie!

    1. Oh thank you for the help! She did so good on day one that I was really close to freaking when she had her yelping episode yesterday. Calm, reassuring words help both of us. Thank you again.
